Albert Sharra
Albert Sharra is a joint postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Edinburgh and University of Witwatersrand and an Honorary Fellow in the Centre of African Studies at the University of Edinburgh. He is also a Visiting Research Fellow in the Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI) at the University of Westminster. His research covers media and politics with a bias on new technologies. His work falls within two main research areas: (i) 'Digital culture, society and the state', examining how technologies are transforming forms of political activism and campaigning and the ways the state responds through policing and state surveillance and (ii) 'Journalism/media culture and practice', which builds up on his 10 years of newsroom experience as a journalist. It examines the ways technologies are transforming journalism/media culture and practice in Africa. Albert is also a Digital Media Mentor at the International Press Institute (IPI).
