Dominic van Asseldonk
Dominic van Asseldonk currently works at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Food and Nutrition Security division. At the ministry he works on food security programs, with a focus on West-Africa and in particular the Sahelian countries. He has an MSc in Resilient Farming and Food Systems from Wageningen University. For his MSc thesis he did research on pastoralist foodways in Uganda's northeastern Karamoja region, in collaboration with Vétérinaires Sans Frontières - Belgium (VSF-B). For his BA in Gastronomic Sciences and Cultures at the University of Gastronomic Sciences (UNISG, Italy) he researched pest-prevention and agroecological methods among smallholder banana farmers in Uganda's Mukono district. Apart from food security in general, he has an interest in pastoralism, drylands, and the social and cultural side of food and foodways.
