Harry Sie Brooks

Harry Sie Brooks holds a BA degree (1978) from the University of Liberia, major in Political Science, and was a freelance journalist contributing to the Redeemer Newspaper; Deputy Editor and Editor in Chief of the Monrovia Check Out magazine from 1980 to 1986. Between 1986 to1990, I served as Special Assistant to Agent General (Roland Morris Sr.) of  LERA, in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. When the war in Liberia reached Monrovia, Brooks founded the Liberia Human Rights Chapter, Inc., in 1991. He was a grantee of the National Endowment for Democracy from 1992-2002.  In 2002, he helped establish the Human Rights Section in the Ministry of Justice. After the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord by Liberian warring parties 2003 in Ghana, he became the Special Assistant to the Acting Chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia until July 2004, when he joined the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) as a National Human Rights Officer until retirement in 2014. During his tenure with UNMIL, Brooks worked to reduce and abolish harmful traditional practices in his areas  of responsibility (Grand Kru County, River Gee County). Brooks later served as Regional Coordinator & Chief Investigator at the Independent National Commission on Human Rights in 2016-17.
