Kalpana Hiralal
Kalpana Hiralal is a Professor in the Department of Historical Studies in the School of Social Sciences at Howard College at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. A former AfOx Senior Fellow at the University of Oxford, her two key areas of interest are Gender and South Asian Diaspora to Africa and Politics and Resistance in South Africa. She is the co-editor of 'Satyagraha, Passive Resistance and its Legacy' (Manohar 2015), co-author of 'Pioneers of Satyagraha Indian South Africans Defy Racist Laws 1907-1914' (Navajivan 2017), and most recent book publication, 'Sisters in the Struggle - Women of Indian Origin in South Africa's Liberation Struggle 1900–1994' (Volume I, Routledge 2023). She is currently working on a manuscript on South Asian migration to Africa in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
