Robert J.W. Tijssen

Robert Tijssen is Emeritus Professor at Leiden University (former chair of Science and Innovation Studies). Robert is also Professor at Stellenbosch University (South Africa), where he is affiliated to the DST-NRF Center of Excellence in Scientometrics and Science, Technology and Innovation Policy. His academic interests and research activities are at the nexus of science, innovation and higher education, with a focus on systems-level analysis and key performance indicators.

The current research agenda in Stellenbosch includes studies of research excellence in Africa, science and SDGs in Africa, innovative universities in South Africa, and socio-economic impacts of science in low- and middle income countries.
