Saurav Narain

Saurav Narain is a Marie-Curie PhD Candidate at Institute for Secruity and Global Affairs (ISGA) funded by Horizon Europe’s MSCA EU-GLOCTER project.
His PhD is titled 'EU Counterterrorism, United Nations and Local Peacekeeping' where he focuses on EU and UN interventions as conflict resolution actors on the African Continent. He currently focuses on the conflicts in the Sahel, Somalia and Mozambique, tracing the impact of external 'counterterorrism' interventions on local conflict dynamics. Narain explores the adaption of UN norms (Protection of Civilians; Women, Peace and Security; Sexual Violence) on the local level as the capacity and legitimacy of the UN system in a multi-polar world. Methodologically, he is training in speech and interview analysis with field-based practitioners to connect the international level discourse with the field.
 
He has completed Erasmus Mundus International Master in Security, Intelligence and Security Studies (IMSISS) degree from University of Glasgow, Dublin City University and Charles University, Prague and additionally an MA in International Relation from Leiden University.
