Leiden Africa Platform
The Leiden Africa Platform (LAP) was established in 2024 and builds on the Leiden African Studies Assembly (LeidenASA). The main goal of the Platform is bringing together Leiden University scholars working on Africa, and through these synergies give substance to the Leiden University Africa policy. It aims to do so through several activities, such as:
- promoting the visibility of Africa-related research, education, output, and events at Leiden University
- acting as central liaison for Africa-related questions and queries from within Leiden University, and from elsewhere
- acting as a broker with the purpose of strengthening collaborations in the field of research, education, and impact, at Leiden University, within the LDE-alliance, and with partners on the African continent
The Leiden Africa Platform is part of the region policy defined in the Leiden University Strategic Plan. It is governed by the Africa Region Group consisting of representatives of all Leiden University faculties, LUMC, NIMAR, NVIC, LDE Centre for Frugal Innovation, and the ASCL. The region group is headed by a chair and vice-chair. The coordinator of the Leiden Africa Platform is a member of the team Internationalisation (LU department Strategy and Academic Affairs) and works closely with a Senior Strategic Advisor of that same department.
The Leiden Africa Platform Annual Meeting provides the members of the Platform with the opportunity to showcase their research, and to connect to other colleagues.
