African Dynamics Minor: From Reading Africa to Exploring Kenya
The LDE Minor African Dynamics started on 1 September with a cohort of 36 students from Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam, representing a wide range of disciplines, from Archaeology and Architecture to Aerospace Engineering, Business Administration, Pedagogical Sciences, Medicine, International Studies and Psychology, to name just a few.
Last week, the students completed their first course, Reading Africa, with an engaging programme beyond the classroom. Highlights included lunch at MensaMensa, a walk through Rotterdam's vibrant, multicultural Afrikaanderwijk, a visit to the FENIX Museum of Migration, and the collaborative 2030 SDGs Game, facilitated by Taslim Alade at TU Delft.
Next, the students will embark on a six-week field study in Kenya, from 5 October to 11 November. In Nairobi, they will be joined by ten Kenyan students from Maasai Mara University, the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University. Together, they will explore Kenyan Livelihoods, Challenges and Futures through an immersive, interdisciplinary learning experience that brings different academic backgrounds, perspectives and forms of knowledge into dialogue.
