In his latest blog for Faces of Science, Tycho van der Hoog looks beyond Europe to explore the economic, political, and military connections between African countries and the Russia-Ukraine war. From dependence on Russian and Ukrainian grain and fertiliser to diplomatic competition for African support and the involvement of African and Russian military actors, the effects of the war stretch far beyond the European continent. Tycho also highlights that African countries and organisations aren't simply affected by the conflict, but have sought to influence it themselves, including through African-led peace efforts.
