Congrats to 21 African Studies graduates!
An impressive total of 21 graduates from the BA, MA and Research MA African Studies received their diplomas on 18 November during a festive ceremony in the Academy Building in Leiden. Their thesis topics ranged from the culture and spaces of digital gaming in Accra (Ghana), one of the African gaming industry’s main cities, to how the Oromo diaspora in The Netherlands construct Ethiopian history. And from motivations behind the artistic creation and the perceived societal role of artists in Saint-Louis (Senegal), to the recourse to traditional medicine amongst Senegalese diaspora in Brescia (Northern Italy). Many theses will become available in the online Leiden Repository (see BA and MA/ResMA sections of the repository).
The ceremony was co-chaired by Azeb Amha, Chair of the Research Master programme, Karin Nijenhuis, Chair of the Master Programme, and Nancy Kula, Chair of the BA programme, and Chibuike Uche from the Board of Examiners handed over the diplomas. Many thesis supervisors were present to give laudatio: Lidewyde Berckmoes, Mirjam de Bruijn, Mayke Kaag, Walter Nkwi Gam, Harry Wels and Sara de Wit.
Congratulations to all graduates!
