Course 'Africa’s Global Connections' at Shanghai University

Early June, Prof. Mayke Kaag taught a course on Africa’s Global Connections at Shanghai University. The group consisted of undergraduate, master and PhD students, mainly with a background in anthropology, sociology or international relations. Prof. Kaag: “The course was designed as an interactive encounter and it was very interesting and rewarding to discuss diverse aspects of Africa’s shifting global connections, including those with China, with the Chinese students. I learned a lot about Chinese perspectives on, and media coverage of, what is currently going on in Africa. The students were very active, and open and eager to exchange and learn.” In the meantime, the course provided the opportunity to exchange with colleagues at Shanghai University, and develop further plans for joint supervision and research collaboration. “Massey University in New Zealand is another important partner in this collaboration, and we very much hope that African colleagues will like to join, too. We are working on an exciting initiative - more to follow soon!
