Exhibition in the ASCL Library: African portraits in weaving by Celine Michel
The ASCL Library is pleased to exhibit a series of hand-made weavings of African portraits, made by Celine Michel.
The weavings are partly inspired by pictures she took in Burkina Faso where she used to live as a child and which sparked her fascination with the African continent. She explains her way of working: "First I make an oil-painting of one of my pictures. Then I start to weave and use the paintings as a source of inspiration. Each weaving piece takes about 50 hours."
The colourful weavings as well as two of Celine Michel's paintings can be admired in the ASCL Library during opening hours. Feel free to come and take a look!
