Martin Luther King Debate about Hidden discrimination in Europe

The International Debate Education Association (IDEA) and the African Studies Centre (ASC) invite you to commemorate Martin Luther King’s legacy on the Martin Luther King Day with a debate.

This ‘Martin Luther King debate’ will focus on his role in consolidating racial justice, non-violence, peace and reconciliation. What can we learn from his messages? Why did people join his movement with endurable, never ending commitment? Are there examples of young people today to solidify his belief for a just world? And how can we support young people to fight for Martin Luther King’s dream of liberty, equality, justice and unity in contemporary societies?

The debate addresses these questions and highlights the profound lessons of Martin Luther King. Far from looking backwards, we hope to improve understanding of the present world and to contribute to the debate on new citizenship, identity and the future of our multicultural societies. Speakers are:

Prof. Dr. Salih: Professor of Politics of Development, Institute of Social Studies (The Hague)

Mpanzu Bamenga: who raised this subject as one of the winners of our debate competition ‘Debating the Future of African Youth in Europe and Africa’ in October 2012.

Amma Asante: Debate moderator
