The ASCL’s collaborative research group Collaboration and Contestation in Words: Dialogues and Disputes in African Social Realities organised a workshop late 2018 on the question: to what extent is the concept of free speech appropriate when it comes to a discourse that spreads hate, in particular homophobia?
