New web dossier: Alcohol in Africa
With the prolific expansion of cities and the growth of a more affluent middle class, alcohol consumption patterns are changing across Africa. This is reflected in the increased consumption of wine in the oil-producing states such as Angola. Still, the push of South African Breweries (SAB) across the continent, accompanied by the global restructuring of the brewing industry, is leading to ever-more assertive attempts to defend the market for beer. At the same time, the growth of the Pentecostal movement has seen a revival of temperance across Africa. Find book titles, articles and electronic documents in our latest web dossier 'Alcohol in Africa', with an introduction by Paul Nugent, Centre of African Studies, Edinburgh.
