Play in Swahili: Aliyeonja pepo
Aliyeonja pepo or 'The one who tasted Heaven'
The play is set in Heaven. An extraordinary place run by bureaucratic angels whose work is all but flawless. This time a rather serious mistake has occured. The lives and deaths of Juma Hamisi, a fishmonger from Bagamoyo, and John Houghton, a barkeeper from Bournemouth, got mixed up. John, who was supposed to die, is still very much alive whereas Juma, who still has a year to go, is enjoying the luxuries of Heaven. Will the angels restore peace or will the devil rule?
This comedy with a serious twist will be played by second year students of Swahili of Leiden University. For those who don't understand Swahili, a summary in English will be provided.
