Het African Studies Centre Leiden en podcast De Africast gaan samenwerken! De Africast is een podcast over de geschiedenis, geopolitiek en het ondernemersklimaat in Afrika. Diverse thema’s worden in gesprekken met experts onder de loep genomen; dit kunnen bijvoorbeeld onderzoekers, NGO-specialisten of correspondenten zijn.

De stichting waar De Africast voorheen was ondergebracht - de stichting Nederlands Genootschap Internationale Zaken (NGIZ) - wordt opgeheven; vanaf heden wordt De Africast administratief ondergebracht bij het African Studies Centre Leiden. De Africast behoudt de redactionele autonomie en verzorgt de inhoud, marketing en productie van de podcastopnames. Voor de vaste Africast-luisteraars verandert er niets.

Doordat De Africast wordt ondergebracht onder de paraplu van het ASCL, zijn samenwerkingen makkelijker te smeden. Het ASCL kan het contact met onderzoekers, informatiespecialisten, visiting fellows en (PhD-)studenten faciliteren, en interessante publicaties of onderzoeksuitkomsten voor podcastinhoud aandragen.

De Africast is Nederlandstalig en maakt kennis over en uit Afrika voor een breder publiek in Nederland en daarbuiten toegankelijk. Het ASCL biedt een rijkdom aan kennis en expertise waar De Africast een stem aan kan geven.

The African Studies Centre Leiden and the podcast De Africast are joining forces! De Africast is a podcast about the history, geopolitics and business climate in Africa. A range of topics are explored in conversations with experts, who may include researchers, NGO specialists or correspondents.

The foundation under which De Africast was previously housed – the Netherlands Society for International Affairs (NGIZ) – is being dissolved; from now on, De Africast will be administratively housed at the African Studies Centre Leiden. De Africast retains its editorial autonomy and is responsible for the content, marketing and production of the podcast recordings. Nothing will change for regular Africast listeners.

As De Africast is now operating under the umbrella of the ASCL, it will be easier to forge collaborations. The ASCL can facilitate contact with researchers, visiting fellows and (PhD) students, and suggest interesting publications or research findings for podcast content.

De Africast is in Dutch and makes knowledge about and from Africa accessible to a wider audience in the Netherlands and beyond. The ASCL offers a wealth of knowledge and expertise to which De Africast can give a voice.
