Stephen Ellis wins South African Recht Malan Prize for best non-fiction book with 'The External Mission'
Stephen Ellis' book, "External Mission: The ANC in Exile", has been awarded the Recht Malan prize for non-fiction awarded by the Media24 group in South Africa. This is one of South Africa's top two literary prizes. The winners of prizes to the value of R35 000 per category were announced at a gala event held at the Commodore Hotel and hosted by radio and TV presenter Liezl van der Westhuizen on Friday evening. The Media24 Books Literary Awards recognise work from publishers that fall under the domain of Media24, including NB and Jonathan Ball, while the Jan Rabie Rapport prize, won this year by MS Burger for her short story collection Bloedfamilie, is open to all publishers and recognises outstanding debut or early Afrikaans prose.
