Student Assistant for a research project

Part-time (4 hours per week) from February until December 2025.

What you will do

The Student Assistant will support the LUGF-funded project titled:  The operations of Multinational Corporations (MNCs) in Conflict Areas towards developing a conceptual framework. This research is being undertaken by a multidisciplinary team consisting of Professor Dr. C U Uche (ASCL), Professor Dr. Irma Mosquera Valderrama (Law), and three colleagues in Africa.

The main tasks of the student assistant will include:

  • library search;
  • summary and analysis of the relevant reports relating to the subject matter;
  • translation of documents to English;
  • organising group meetings and wider seminars for project members and invited guests and taking minutes during such meetings;
  • sending out, following up on questionnaires;
  • establishing and analysing the reports from such questionnaires;
  • any other project related duties may be assigned by project team members.

The African Studies Centre Leiden is an interfaculty research institute of Leiden University and the only multidisciplinary academic knowledge institute in the Netherlands that is fully dedicated to the study of Africa. It boasts a renowned collection with unique primary material in the African Library and is progressive in open science, acquisition in and collaboration with Africa.

What you bring

  • basic knowledge of international relations, international conflicts, or international business;
  • working knowledge of French and Dutch are an advantage;

The preferred candidate should be an undergraduate or postgraduate student in the humanities, social sciences, law, or related disciplines.

During the duration of the contract, it is a strict requirement that you are enrolled as a student (BA from the 2nd year or MA) at a Dutch university.

What we offer

A varied and challenging position in an inspiring, informal, scientific environment, with flexible working hours. The salary, depending on the stage of education (i.e., year of study) and/or admission to the master's program, ranges from a minimum of €2925,-- to a maximum of €2981,-- gross per month for a full-time appointment. The appointment is for 4 hours a week, from as soon as possible, preferably from February until December 2025.
