Abeer R.Y. Abazeed

Visiting PhD candidate Abeer Abazeed succesfully defended her PhD Is it one Nile? Civic engagement and hydropolitics in the Eastern Nile Basin: the case of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia on 21 April 2021.

Abeer R.Y. Abazeed is a PhD candidate at the institute of Security and Global Affairs at Leiden University. Her PhD research tackles the role of civil society in hydropolitics issues in the Eastern Nile Basin (Egypt- Sudan – South Sudan – Ethiopia).

In Egypt, Abeer works as assistant lecturer of political science at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University.

Abeer has a BSc of Political Science from Cairo University, and then she earned her MA degree from the American University in Cairo (AUC) on the topic 'Aid Harmonization: UK and Denmark Aid Policies toward Ghana and Tanzania: (2005-2010)'. Also, she got a diploma in Public Policy and Administration from the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) in AUC.

Her research interest is political economy and she published articles in Arabic journals using this approach; ex: 'The Impact of Securitization on Aid Effectiveness'; 'Absent Vision: Is African Integration able to restore the Initial Tendency of Independence'; 'Facing Ebola: Heavy Economic Repercussions and Limited Responses'; 'From Hegemony to Pluralism: the Rise of Leading Networks in the Global Economic System'.

Civic engagement is her current research interest that derived from her engagement in many Egyptian civil society organizations and initiatives and she contributed in founding initiatives aims to consolidate bonds between Egypt and other African countries.
