Emmanuel Sarabwe
Emmanuel Sarabwe has an MA degree of Social Work and Social administration from the Uganda Christian University in Kabale, Uganda, obtained in 2012 and a second MA degree of Human Rights Gender and Conflict in Social Justice Perspective from the International Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, The Netherlands, obtained in 2017. Since 2005, he has been working for successive programs of Community Based Sociotherapy (CBS Rwanda), supporting Rwandans to constructively deal with the consequences of the genocide against the Tutsi. During his work he has gained an extensive experience of how the genocide psychosocially affected Rwandans in general and particularly genocide survivors, genocide perpetrators, and their respective family members. This motivated him to conduct applied research in the areas of family dynamism, psychosocial life, forgiveness and peacebuilding.
As an externally funded fellow, the visit will enable Sarabwe to liaise with academics interested in collaborating with CBS Rwanda focusing on the variety of consequences of the genocide, as well as processes of recovery and related challenges in these processes that academics and practitioners can learn from. Access to a good library and having time to concentrate will help him to complete two pending research papers on 1) Forgiveness as reparative humanism of genocide crimes in Rwanda and 2) In the underarm of God: Surviving from community resistance to the genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda.
During the study visit, he will explore opportunities to do a self-funded PhD based on articles.
