James Nyoro
I am an agricultural economist and since 1991 a senior research fellow with Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and development, Egerton University in Kenya. My main work involves policy research and analysis on key economic issues such as the potential gains of market reforms and the monitoring of the reform process. I have done several impact studies on policy changes in the coffee, maize, wheat and horticultural sectors.
The last two years, I worked closely with the government of Kenya to prepare the Agricultural Sector review Paper and the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP). The latter was central in World Bank/IMF negotiations. During my stay here at the African Study Center, I will prepare and present a paper on the Kenya's competitiveness in domestic maize production: and its implications for food security.
