Nicodemus Fru Awasom
I was born and educated in Cameroon and am a holder of the "Doctorat de 3ème Cycle" degree in History from the University of Yaounde. I taught African History at the University of Buea From 1993 to 1999, after which my position was terminated for unacademic reasons. Currently I am unaffiliated. I have published articles in 'Paideuma', 'Journal of Third World Studies', 'Africa Today', and 'Epasa Moto UNIBUEA'.
I am a recipient of the prestigious Lawrence Dunbar Reddick Memorial Scholarship Award for the best article on Africa published in the Journal of Third World Studies, academic year 1998. My current interests include constitutional political economy, intergroup relations, the Anglophone problem in Cameroon and the Hausa-Fulani Muslim minorities in Cameroon's Western Grassfields.
At the African Studies Centre, I am working on:
- Autochtonisation Politics and the Crises of Citizenship in Cameroon;
- The Rise and Containment of Anglophone Secessionist Tendencies in Post-Colonial Cameroon;
- A Background to the Making of the 1960 Constitution of Cameroon (Francophone) Republic; and
- The Unpreparedness of the Political Elite of Anglophone and Francophone Cameroon for Reunification and Federalism and its implications for Peace in Cameroon.
It is my hope that the rich infrastructure at the African Studies Centre
will enable me to accomplish my objectives.
