Onalenna Selolwane

Dr Selolwane from the Department of Sociology at the University of Botswana was busy working on various manuscripts and books and preparing new teaching materials while in the Netherlands. The main focus of her work at the ASC was a book-writing project based on a study carried out during Botswana’s last election in 1999 considering youth, democracy and political participation. The study was part of a larger enquiry into issues of democracy, citizenship and political participation including problems of political representation, ethnicity, nation-building and governance. She was also researching the nature, causes and extent of poverty in Botswana in particular the gender, age and ethnic dimensions of the phenomenon, including policy aspects and the social consequences.
