Titus Ogalo Pacho
Dr. Titus Ogalo Pacho is Lecturer in the Department of Educational Foundations at St. Augustine University of Tanzania. He holds a PhD in Educational Science from the University of Hamburg, an MA in Philosophy from the University of Zimbabwe, and a B.Ed. from Kenyatta University. Pacho’s research is interdisciplinary in nature and analyses the role of innovative approaches in improving the quality and effectivity of educational process. He has a broad range of research interests in the field of education including service-learning and community engagement, critical pedagogy, international and comparative education, teacher education, citizenship education, global learning, internationalization of education, technology in education, curriculum and instruction, quality management and assurance in education, and ethics in education. His recent book, Service-Learning in Higher Education in Africa (2018) explores the role of service-learning in enhancing student’s learning experiences while strengthening local communities, and adding value to the service mission of higher education. His other book, Critical and Creative Education for the New Africa (2013) examine the ways in which critical and creative education can be an effective empowerment tool for responsible citizenry and social transformation in Africa. Pacho has co-organised and facilitated several national and international events including a conference on education and sustainable development, and seminars on teacher professionalism, democratic classroom, pedagogy of the 21st century, intercultural communication, and creativity and peace building in higher education. Furthermore, he has collaborated in several academic and research projects in different countries including Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Germany.
Since 2017, Pacho coordinates research, workshops, conferences and collaborations in the Department of Educational Foundations at St. Augustine University of Tanzania. Additionally, he is the founder of Service-Learning Foundation, an NGO which focuses on enhancing students’ experiential-learning through partnerships and collaborations with community organisations for the mutual benefit of both parties, and for promoting the service mission of educational institutions. The Foundation supports service-learning and sustainability initiatives, research and innovation, community service, capacity building, and intercultural exchange.
Currently, he is collaborating in a research on “global citizenship education in the context of higher education in Tanzania and the Netherlands” as a LeidenASA visiting fellow, hosted by the African Studies Centre, Leiden University, the Netherlands.
