Abstract

This editorial introduces the Special Issue (SI) “Green Hydrogen in the Global South: Politics, Spaces, and Transformations”. Despite the industry's unproven viabilityand contested development benefits, green hydrogen has emerged as a key pillar of global decarbonization strategies, driving a rush for land, water, and energy resources across Global South frontiers. Drawing on political geography, this SI interrogates how green hydrogen's political economy and place-based politics manifest in and reshape Global South countries, territories, and societies amid uneven power geographies. The editorial outlines the political and academic relevance of researching green hydrogen in the Global South, synthesizes the empirical and theoretical contributions of the six articles that compose this SI, and closes by highlighting recent trends and open research puzzles.
