This collection is the personal research archive of Stephen Ellis. It covers his entire working life, from his PhD research at the University of Oxford in the late 1970s until his untimely death in 2015, when he was working as a senior researcher at the African Studies Centre Leiden. The archive consists of notes, correspondence, photographs, video material, drafts, newspaper articles, archival sources, book reviews, publications, and a variety of miscellaneous material.
