Tourism and African development : change and challenge of tourism in Kenya

Using the example of Kenya, the author assesses whether tourism is a viable development strategy for Africa. More specifically, he assesses the contribution of tourism to development; documents the development of tourism in Kenya; examines the impact of international tourism on the environment and society in Kenya; considers the response of Kenyan communities to international tourism; and makes recommendations for alternative tourism strategies with applicability to other African countries
