Halil Kaya

Dr. Halil Kaya completed his BA in History at Marmara University in 2015. He earned his MA from the International University of Rabat in 2019 and received his PhD from the same institution in 2025, with a dissertation focusing on the biography of Emir Abdelmalek ben Abdelkader (1868-1924).
He is currently an academic at Istanbul University. His research interests primarily revolve around the Ottoman Empire's activities in North Africa during the colonial era, with a specialized focus on Ottoman-Moroccan relations. He specifically examines the transimperial dynamics and networks of anti-French resistance movements in Morocco during World War I. His work often utilizes microhistorical approaches and biographical studies of marginal figures to provide a more nuanced understanding of North African history.
