Jolanda Robinson

Jolanda Robinson is an interdisciplinary researcher whose work focuses on Africa, particularly Ethiopia, examining the intersections of gender, governance, digital technologies, and international development. She has a long-standing affiliation with the Africa-Europe Partnership Institute for Capacity Building and Human Resource Development (AEPICAB). She is completing a PhD within the Governance and Inclusive Development (GID) programme group at the University of Amsterdam, where her research examines how international organisations can strengthen gender mainstreaming strategies to promote greater inclusion in the ICT sector. Drawing on feminist political economy and neo-Gramscian approaches, her work explores how institutions, power relations, and ideas shape digital development and gender equality.

 

Her broader research interests include ICT4D, artificial intelligence governance, masculinities, digital inclusion, innovation ecosystems, and the governance of emerging technologies. She is particularly interested in how digital transformation can contribute to more equitable and inclusive development in African contexts, and in the roles of women and men in advancing gender equality within technology sectors.

 

Alongside her academic research, she has extensive experience in higher education, international capacity building, and programme development. She has taught and presented on gender, governance, technology, and development at universities and international conferences, and collaborates with partners in Ethiopia on research and community-based initiatives related to digital inclusion, AI literacy, innovation, and inclusive development.
