PhD candidate Tycho van der Hoog was interviewed for the Leiden University podcast series 'Enkeltje Wetenschap' about his book on the history of Namibian beer. He explains how beer was used to suppress the black population in Namibia - that was a mandate of South Africa until 1990. The podcast is in Dutch.

Between 1959 and 1962 international peace campaigners had established close links with African leaders, forging what they hoped would be the basis of a transnational pacifist network. They hoped to establish training centres for non-violent activism; instead, the camps that were established in Tanzania and elsewhere by the mid-1960s served groups determined to overthrow the last bastions of settler colonialism by force. This seminar by Robert Skinner, University of Bristol, takes place in the framework of 'Africa 2020'.
