In November 2021, at its 41st Session in Paris, the General Conference of UNESCO declared July 7th World Kiswahili Language Day. By Resolution 41 C/61, Member States recognised the critical role played by Kiswahili in promoting cultural diversity, creating awareness, and fostering dialogue among civilizations. The World Kiswahili Language Day is featured in our Library Weekly.

On the occasion of the Slavery Memorial Year in the Netherlands, the ASCL library presents its updated web dossier on Dutch involvement in the transatlantic slave trade and abolition. The selection focuses on Dutch involvement, African perspectives, and personal narratives of enslaved persons and those involved in the trade.

On 27 June 1948, South African-born German anthropologist and philologist Dorothea Frances Bleek died in Newlands, Cape Town at the age of 75. She is known for her research on the San in Southern Africa.
