Abdourahamane Idrissa
I am a Nigerién political scientist, born and brought up in Niger. I studied Philosophy and Political Science at the University of Dakar, in Senegal, before moving to the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship. I obtained a PhD from the University of Florida in 2009. Postdoctoral work at the Universities of Oxford and Princeton, as a Global Leader Fellow (2nd Cohort), have helped me to develop expertise in the political economy of West Africa. This is supported by my earlier focus on African democratization, political Islam and political theory. I have published several book chapters and journal articles in both English and French, primarily on Niger and the Sahelian region. I am currently working on West African regionalism, security governance and political Islam. I am based in Niamey, where in 2014 I established a think tank on political economy and governance in the Sahel and West Africa.
