Afrikaans is currently much disputed in South Africa, predominantly because of its history. In this seminar, Simon Witbooi aka Hemelbesem plans to prove that the language is alive and well. Using excerpts from his book God Praat Afrikaans, he will accentuate a number of observations about the language and will discuss its users, its distorted representations, its commercial value, its cultural contributions and its art. Hemelbesem will also perform as a rapper.
