Chong Zhang
Chong Zhang is a PhD candidate both at the African Studies Centre Leiden and the Institute of Economic Sociology and Multinationals (IESM, Shanghai University). Previously, he completed an MA degree in Anthropology at Shanghai University and a BA degree in Environmental Engineering at Hubei University. His doctoral research is an interdisciplinary study encompassing Anthropology, Sociology, and African studies. He conducts research on Chinese investments in African countries including Ghana, Ethiopia and Egypt, especially in the sectors of agriculture and infrastructure, with a particular focus on the daily interaction from both Chinese and African sides to understand the economic, social and cultural outcomes.
