Imelda Hoebes

Imelda Hoebes is a PhD candidate at the African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL), employed by KITLV, Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). Originally from Namibia, she holds an MA in Sociology and a BA (Honours) in Psychology, both from the University of Namibia. Before joining ASCL, she worked as a part-time lecturer at the University of Namibia (UNAM), teaching Rural Sociology, Gender Studies, and Namibian Society, while coordinating the UNAM Gender Advocacy Project. She has contributed to research projects across Southern Africa. Equipped with 15 years of experience in academia and the development sector, she combines research with community engagement, NGO work, and government partnerships reflecting a career-long commitment to amplifying marginalised voices and translating research into social impact.
