We are honoured that Dr Graça Machel will visit Leiden University and give a public lecture on 27 October. Leiden University awarded Graça Machel with an honorary doctorate in recognition of her exceptional contribution in the field of children's rights in 2021.

This book examines the opportunities and challenges entailed in the digital transformation of access to justice as a means of legal empowerment for rural women in Northern Uganda. It is based on Robert Okello's master's thesis, for which he won the 2022 Africa Thesis Award.

Het Afrika-Studiecentrum Leiden is op zoek naar een managementassistent (0.8-1.0 fte) m.i.v. 1 december 2023. Tot de werkzaamheden behoren o.a. ondersteuning van de directeur (m.n. agendabeheer en correspondentie) en het uitvoeren van secretariële en logistieke werkzaamheden t.b.v. de organisatie.

On 30 September 2012, Somali poet and political activist, Mohamed Hashi Dhamac, better known as Gaarriye, died at a hospital in Norway. He is regarded as one of the most important Somali poets of the twentieth century.
